Google Maps for Businesses in Baghdad: Set Up Your Google Business Profile

For restaurants, clinics, shops and offices, Google Maps is often the first place a customer sees you. A free Google Business Profile controls what appears there: your name, location, hours, phone, photos and reviews. Gemini and other assistants also use this information.

1. Create the profile

1. Go to business.google.com and sign in with a Google account you will keep (ideally a company account, not a personal one).
2. Search for your business name. If it already exists, claim it; otherwise create a new profile.
3. Choose the most accurate primary category, for example "Dental clinic", "Restaurant" or "Software company".
4. Place the pin exactly on your location. In Iraq, where street addresses are often informal, the pin matters more than the written address.

2. Verify it

Google offers verification by phone, email, video or postcard depending on the business. Video verification usually means filming your signage, the inside of the premises and something that proves you manage it. Unverified profiles rank poorly and can be edited by others.

3. Fill every field

• Name: your real business name, without extra keywords. Keyword-stuffed names can get a profile suspended.
• Hours: including special hours for Ramadan and holidays.
• Phone and WhatsApp: a number that is actually answered.
• Website: link to the most relevant page.
• Description: plain sentences about what you offer and where, in the language most of your customers use.
• Services or menu, and photos: real photos of the place, team and products. Profiles with photos get far more engagement.

4. Earn real reviews

Ask satisfied customers for a review right after a good experience, with a direct link or QR code. Reply to every review, positive or negative, politely and in the reviewer's language. Never buy reviews or write them yourself; Google removes them and may suspend the profile.

5. Keep it alive

Post updates and offers, add new photos, and answer questions in the Q&A section. Make sure your name, address and phone are identical on your website, Facebook and Instagram.
