How to Get Your Business Mentioned by ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude

Customers increasingly ask an AI assistant "who builds ERP systems in Baghdad?" instead of typing it into Google. Getting mentioned in those answers is called GEO (generative engine optimisation). It is not magic: AI assistants mostly repeat what they can read and confirm on the web.

How AI assistants decide what to say

  • Live search: ChatGPT search and Microsoft Copilot use Bing's index; Gemini uses Google's. If those search engines do not index you, the assistant cannot find you.
  • Readable pages: many AI crawlers do not run JavaScript. If your text only appears after scripts load, they see an empty page.
  • Agreement across sources: an assistant is more confident when your website, Google Business Profile, LinkedIn and directories all say the same thing about you.
  • Clear, quotable facts: short statements like "based in Baghdad, founded in 2023, builds Odoo ERP" are easy to repeat accurately.

Step 1: Let the crawlers in

Check your robots.txt does not block GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot or Google-Extended. Make sure your important pages show their text in the HTML itself, not only after JavaScript runs.

Step 2: Get indexed by Bing and Google

Add your site to Google Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools and submit your sitemap. Bing matters more than most people think, because several assistants use it. Tools like IndexNow tell Bing immediately when a page changes.

Step 3: Publish clear facts about your business

  • An "About" section with who you are, where you are based and what you do, in plain sentences.
  • Structured data (schema.org Organization or LocalBusiness) with the same facts.
  • An llms.txt file: a short, plain-text summary written for AI systems.
  • Both Arabic and English pages, each on its own URL, so you can be found in either language.

Step 4: Be mentioned elsewhere

Assistants trust what others say about you. A complete Google Business Profile, a LinkedIn company page, listings on business directories, and a "developed by" link on client websites all help. Keep the name, address and description identical everywhere.

Step 5: Answer real questions

Write articles that answer the exact questions customers ask: costs, timelines, how a process works, how to choose a provider. Assistants often quote pages that answer a question directly.

What not to do

  • Do not invent reviews, ratings or client numbers. Inconsistent or false claims make assistants less likely to trust you, and fake review markup can get you penalised by Google.
  • Do not hide text or stuff keywords. Write for people.
